In 2022, we experienced an unfortunate fire at one of our facilities (San Fernando de Henares). This event has highlighted the crucial importance of maintaining and reinforcing our fire safety measures. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but it serves as a call to action for everyone.
The Danger of Fires
Industrial plants, especially those handling flammable materials like plastics, are constantly at risk of fires. These can originate from various causes, such as electrical failures, defective machinery, improper handling of hazardous materials, or simply negligence. A fire can not only cause significant material damage but also endanger the lives of our employees and the stability of the company.
Safety Measures Implemented and to Be Followed by Everyone
Since the fire in 2022, we have implemented a series of additional measures to improve safety at our plants:
High-Rise Hoses: We have installed high-pressure hoses on strategically located towers around our plants to ensure a quick response in the event of a fire.
Parcel Material Handling: We have reinforced the proper handling and storage of all materials in the parcel to minimize combustion risks.
In addition to these measures, it is essential that everyone continues to adhere to the following safety practices:
- Regular Equipment Maintenance: Conduct periodic inspections and maintenance of all machinery and electrical equipment. Any faults or wear should be immediately repaired.
- Proper Storage of Flammable Materials: All flammable materials must be stored in designated areas, away from heat sources, and well-ventilated.
- Ongoing Training: All employees must receive regular training on fire safety procedures and how to use the firefighting equipment available in the facilities.
- Installation and Maintenance of Detection and Extinguishing Systems: Smoke detectors, automatic sprinklers, and fire extinguishers should be present at strategic points and regularly inspected to ensure their functionality.
- Evacuation Plan: We must have a clear evacuation plan and conduct regular fire drills to ensure everyone knows how to act in an emergency.
- Control of Sparks and Heat Sources: Avoid using heat sources or tools that can generate sparks near flammable materials. If necessary, use appropriate protective equipment.
- Reporting Anomalies: It is vital that any unusual situation, such as strange odors, overheating equipment, or faulty cables, be immediately reported to supervisors.
